Level of difficulty
The degree of difficulty should give you an indication of what to expect when building the model. This is not an exact science and depends on many factors, e.g. your experience, available tools, size of the model, complexity of the model, number of parts, time required, but age can also play a role, part labeling on the inside or outside, etc.
You can find out how I try to estimate the level of difficulty here. My models are rated as Easy, Medium, Hard.
Easy
-
number of parts <20
-
Can be cut by hand
-
-
Part size: medium to large, only a few small parts(*1)
-
Numbers mostly easy to read
-
-
Difficult parts to glue: few
-
Time required without cutting(*2): <4h
(*1) Small parts are more difficult to assemble and may require gluing aids because you cannot glue them together with your fingers, or magnifying glasses to read the small numbers.
(*2) whether a model is cut by hand or with a cutting plotter has a huge influence on the construction time. Since I cut my models with a cutting plotter, I have no reference times for cutting by hand. Therefore, the times are always WITHOUT cutting.
Medium
-
Number of parts 20-100
-
Cutting by hand is time-consuming
-
-
Part size: large to small (*1)
-
Some numbers can only be read with a magnifying glass
-
-
Difficult parts to glue: yes
-
Time required without cutting(*2): 4 -20h
(*1)(*2) See "Easy" for explanations
Difficult
-
Number of parts <100
-
Cutting by hand takes a lot of time
-
Part size: many small parts
-
Numbers can only be read with a magnifying glass, or can only be deduced from the neighboring part with
-
Difficult parts to glue: yes
-
Large amount of time required (20h+)
